Noises in
Aleatoric Spaces

Before and during the performance, virtual spaces are generated by chance, as is the distribution ofthe virtual sound sources within it. This happens through a digital process which translates spatial images generated by four, or more sound sources on two channels. Through this process, virtual rooms can be created at any dimensions. This introduces the possibility to immediately change the parameters of spatial conditions at any time, which is only possible in virtual environments. This could mean, that four outputs of a Buchla System, are reproduced by an asymmetrically distributed, virtual source system - one loudspeaker in the upper left front, 20 meters away, one directly next to the right ear, one in a sound-permeable hall above the head and the last one in the back, kind of forgotten in the staircase.  All
outputs of all the players are distributed in this way. This arrangement is similar to a method we are used to from earlier concerts, but in this case, due to the random distribution, ones own play cannot be planned in its spatial dimension. Like this, the players need to improvise not only with each other, but with the randomly generated spatial setups. Further on, the relations between the players are left to chance and have to be renegotiated from case to case, or from room to room. The spatial arrangements are generated in blocks at different time intervals.

For Noises in Aleatoric Spaces, we play only unpitched sounds.
